Same incredible event, just half the distance!

Want to take part in Vélo North but don’t feel quite ready for a century ride? Our spectacular 50 mile route provides you with a fantastic opportunity to experience the thrill of riding in a major closed road sportive over a shorter, more achievable distance.

Starting in the heart of historic Durham City, in the shadow of the Durham Cathedral and Castle UNESCO World Heritage Site (alongside the 100 mile riders), our 50 mile route will take you on a truly breathtaking journey through the county of Durham. Passing through the Durham Dales and rugged North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the sweeping, panoramic views will take your breath away as you tick off the miles on route to the finish line in Durham City centre.

With multiple climbs, our 50 mile route is not to be underestimated, but the dramatic scenery, camaraderie with fellow riders and support from the locals will make for a hugely enjoyable day of cycling.

Vélo North is set to be one of the UK’s biggest and most beautiful cycling events and we can’t wait for you to experience it for yourself on Sunday September 1.

Please note, we will release the detailed, interactive route map complete with KML & GPX files in the coming months.
